Alex Ortiz (@AJO_35) is a web producer for WBBM-TV, the CBS television affiliate in Chicago, Ill. where he produces web stories, helps run social media channels and more.
For over five years, he worked as a reporter for The Herald-News in Joliet, Ill., where he mostly covered Will County government, politics, education, sports and more. He graduated with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with high honors in 2016. He also earned an M.S. in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 2017. At UIUC, he served as the video editor and a sports reporter at The Daily Illini, the school’s independent student newspaper. He has also interned at Comcast Sportsnet Chicago, the Northwest Herald, WCIA-TV and Illini Productions HD. His work has also appeared on CBS 2 Chicago, The Times Weekly, Medill Reports Chicago, Impulse Magazine, Uloop.com and FootballRants.com. Originally from Romeoville, Ill., he graduated from Romeoville High School where served as the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper. In his spare time he enjoys watching sports, reading Stephen King novels, and occasionally stopping by the local gym.
